Our disability support workforce

Support built around the person.

Disability Support Workers assist people with everyday living, community access and activities that matter to them. Effective support starts with listening, respecting preferences and recognising each person’s right to make choices about their own life.

Creative Career Nursing Agency SA (CCNASA) supports disability and community services across Adelaide and South Australia. We consider your experience, training, availability and travel areas when exploring suitable workforce opportunities.

Disability support is not a single standard shift. The setting, routine and duties vary according to the participant’s support plan, the service and the worker’s capabilities. Our recruitment process helps establish suitability before an engagement begins.

Responsibilities

What does a Disability Support Worker do?

Responsibilities depend on the participant’s support plan, service requirements and your training. Support may include:

01

Daily living and personal care

Assist with routines, hygiene, dressing, meals and personal activities while respecting privacy, comfort and independence.

02

Community participation

Support access to social, recreational and community activities that reflect the participant’s interests and goals.

03

Household support

Help with cleaning, laundry, meal preparation and practical tasks that maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.

04

Transport and appointments

Assist participants to attend appointments and community activities in line with agreed service arrangements.

05

Skills and independence

Encourage participation in daily tasks and routines, providing the assistance each person needs without taking away choice.

06

Documentation and teamwork

Maintain accurate progress notes, communicate professionally and report concerns through the service’s procedures.

Medication assistance, behaviour support strategies and more complex support tasks require the relevant training, competence and authorisation. Workers follow the applicable support plan and service procedures within their role.

Experience and readiness

What we look for in support workers

Our team reviews each candidate against the duties of the proposed role. Relevant experience and qualifications in disability, individual support or community services help demonstrate readiness.

  • A respectful, reliable and person-centred approach.
  • Experience suited to the participant and support setting.
  • Clear communication and accurate documentation skills.
  • Australian work rights and suitable identification.
  • Role-relevant screening, references and current training.
  • A driver’s licence and reliable transport where the placement requires travel or participant transport.

NDIS Worker Screening and other checks are reviewed where required for the placement. Additional qualifications or competencies may be needed for particular support tasks.
